Clint Black Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Critically Acclaimed Debut Album Killin' Time
Clint Black, who recently released On Purpose, his first studio album in nearly a decade, has long been heralded as one of Country music’s biggest stars. It all started with the release of his critically acclaimed, triple Platinum debut album Killin’ Time. To mark the album’s 25th Anniversary Taste of Country will be hosting “Clint Black Week,” which launches today with a special performance taped for the celebration of his #1 single “Killin’ Time” as well as a discussion of the album that put him on the map – http://tasteofcountry.com/clint-black-25-years-killin-time/. The seven day series, will feature exclusive interviews and new performances that will also include his #1 hits “Nobody’s Home” and “A Better Man.” Killin’ Time, released in 1989, produced five #1s and won Black four ACM Awards for Album of the Year, Top New Male Vocalist, Top Male Vocalist, Single of the Year “A Better Man,” and also won him CMA Male Vocalist of the Year and the Horizon Award and an American Music Award for Favorite Country New Artist.
“Killin’ Time for me, was this inexplicable phenomenon – a life changing event that took my songs on a journey beyond my wildest dreams,” said Clint. “Those songs were put out there for everyone to hear and not only did they take on a life of their own, they created a connection with my fans that I still enjoy today. For that I’m incredibly grateful.”
Fans can go to www.tasteofcountry.com to check out the “Clint Black Week” videos which feature Black, as well as the members of his band who have been with him since the beginning and Killin’ Time producer James Stroud, giving a retrospective on how it all began, the recording of the album, stories behind the songs and live performances of four songs from the album. The videos are an in depth look at one of the biggest album’s in Country music history.
“Clint Black Week” will include the following interviews and performances:
Day 1: Clint discusses 25 years of Killin’ Time and performs the single by the same name
Day 2: Clint and friends give a 25 year retrospective
Day 3: Clint remembers when he received his first box of LPs and cassettes of Killin’ Time from RCA
Day 4: Along with his band mates and producer Clint remembers being a struggling artist and performs “Live and Learn”
Day 5: Clint gives fans tips on how to write meaningful lyrics that will stand the test of time
Day 6: Clint and his band performs “Nobody’s Home”

Black has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and charted nearly two dozen #1 singles including “Nothing But The Taillights, “Like The Rain” and “When I Said I Do.” He’s one of the most successful artists in Country music history having written, recorded and released more than 100 songs, with nearly one third achieving “hit song” status on Country radio. Since his debut, Black has won numerous awards from the American Music Awards, Academy of County Music, the Grammys and the Country Music Association. Black came onto the scene in 1989 with the debut of his critically acclaimed fan favorite Killin’ Time, which won him Album of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, and Top New Male Vocalist. The Triple-Platinum debut release boasted five #1 hits –a first for any genre– including the title track, and “A Better Man,” which were 1989’s #1 and #2 singles of the year, a feat not achieved since Hank Williams Sr., 35 years earlier. He has had over two dozen #1 singles, and thirty-one Top 10 hits - all written by Black. Along with being a celebrated Country artist Clint serves as Honorary Chair for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation’s (IRSF) “Research to Reality: Funding Process.”
On Purpose is Black’s first all-new studio album in a decade and his twelfth studio album overall. The 14-track album, recorded at Black’s studio in Nashville compiles a strikingly diverse group of his self-produced songs. The lilting “You Still Get to Me” marks Black’s third duet with his wife, actor Lisa Hartman Black. Ballads like “Only One Way to Live,” “Stay Gone,” “Breathing Air” and “Last Day” have never cut deeper, while his merry, clever “Beer” and “Better and Worse” are among the most upbeat songs that he has ever crafted. “Time For That,” “Doing It Now For Love” and “Summertime Song” are catchy examples of how groove-soaked his music can be. “Calling It News” is a wry, topical statement, while “The Trouble” is colored by Australian slang.

New Album, On Purpose, Releasing September 25th
Multi platinum-selling country icon Clint Black is back. Long heralded as one of Country music’s biggest stars, Black will release On Purpose, his first all-new studio album in a decade, on Friday, September 25th. On Purpose, Black’s twenty-first album overall, marks his first since 2005’s Drinkin’ Songs and Other Logic and is his twelfth studio release.
The 14-track album, recorded at Black’s studio in Nashville compiles a strikingly diverse group of his self-produced songs. The lilting “You Still Get to Me” marks Black’s third duet with his wife, actor Lisa Hartman Black. Of the album’s title Black says, “On Purpose comes from a line in the song “Better and Worse.” It represents my attitude towards life, in that it’s never easy to ‘go your own way’, but the rewards are greater when you follow your heart. I know that’s what my fans expect from me, and I hope that they hear that in the songs on this album."
“Musically, On Purpose is right where I want to be,” added Black. “I pushed myself hard for this album, doing more of the guitar work, even playing slide guitar for the first time.”
